About The Event
The Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) was launched by UNICEF and the World Health Organization in 1991 to encourage health facilities to better support breastfeeding by following Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding to promote optimal clinical care for new mothers and their infants. The Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) is called the Baby-Friendly Initiative (BFI) in Canada to reflect the continuum of care from hospital to home. There is substantial evidence suggesting following these steps increases breastfeeding rates.
